Hon’ble V.R. Nedunchezhiyan presented the interim budget for 1996-97. “This Government has consistently supported the economic reforms initiated by the Central Government. At the same time, out of our concern for the poor and the disadvantaged, we have stressed the need to ensure that the conditions of life of the poor are not adversely affected and the levels of expenditure on the critical element of social welfare are not reduced.”
